CUGA was founded in 1984 to promote the growth and development of underwater sports in Canada, as well as support National teams who compete at the International Level. CUGA is the Canadian representative for underwater sports, and reports to the Confédération Mondiale des Activités Subaquatiques (CMAS), which is the international governing body for underwater games played globally.
Currently, underwater hockey and underwater rugby are active sports in Canada, with participating clubs in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia and the Yukon.
CUGA is a Registered Canadian Amateur Athletic Association (RCAAA) that operates as a charity in accordance with the regulations of the Canadian Revenue Agency.
Donations
Donors to CUGA receive a charitable tax receipt in exchange for their financial donation of more than $20.
CUGA accepts donations targeted to any program that it manages, as these donations benefit the growth of underwater sports in Canada. Donations also enable our National Teams to train, travel, and compete at the International tournaments.

Sponsorship
Many charitable organizations such as CUGA rely on sponsorship support to help defray the rising costs of events and programs.
The National teams that compete at World Championships rely on sponsors to help provide members with opportunities to advance their skills and represent Canada at these important tournaments.
Sponsorship is the financial or in-kind support of an activity, used primarily to reach specified business goals.
- Sponsors differ from donors in that sponsors do not receive a charitable tax receipt from CUGA. A sponsor may claim their goods and services/value-in-kind donation as part of their own business expenses, but not as a charitable donation. Sponsors receive a general tax receipt upon request.
